In October 2025, our team member, PhD student Bojana Petrović, participated at the Third Conference of the International Association for Biomonitoring of Environmental Pollution (IABEP 2025) in Belgrade, Serbia. Participation in this event provided opportunity to obtain experience and exchange knowledge about novel biomonitoring techniques and methodologies, emerging pollutants and advances in bioindicators and biomarkers for pollution monitoring. The presentation “Distinguishing between anthropogenic and natural sources of carbonaceous aerosol in Belgrade” showed results from WeBaSOOP project, including offline source apportionment of carbonaceous aerosols. Using specific organic tracers, both anthropogenic (biomass burning by detection of levoglucosan, mannosan and galactosan) and natural sources (primary biological aerosol particles by quantifying sugars and polyols and secondary biogenic aerosol from isoprene by detection of 2-methyltetrols) were identified.
